Programme Challenger are currently developing
a Greater Manchester Schools Competition Pilot and will need
funding to support its development and delivery which will
encompass, funding to develop the winning idea, venue costs,
awards, gift bags, and vouchers.
Programme Challenger will allocate
£9,000 to developing and delivering a Greater Manchester
Schools Competition Pilot in collaboration with GM Complex
Safeguarding Hub and locality complex safeguarding teams.
The aim of the pilot would be to engage with young people aged
11-17 years old in developing ideas which could be pitched to a
panel of experts in a dragon den style, with a view to developing
creative ways to identify solutions to tackle and/or prevent child
exploitation with children and young people.
Participating students would improve their knowledge and awareness
of exploitation, whilst also gaining valuable skills such as
delivering presentations, working as a team, finance planning and
undertaking research.
In the first year, we acknowledge that not all schools will choose
to engage in this work, but we hope that as the profile builds, and
the approach is refined, there will be increased engagement across
GM. The pilot schools involved will be helping us shape this
pioneering approach to listening and responding to the voice of
children and young people. If successful, the competition would
become an annual event, providing an opportunity to listen to young
people’s voices on wider social issues which link to
exploitation.
